Redondo Beach, CA June 2-4, 2017 - Director Profile

Shawn Woodruff

Shawn started his dance journey at the age of 8. He started out with a love of breakdancing and this led him to expand his education in the dance world to include jazz, tap and ballet at his local dance studio in Riverside, CA. At the young age of 16 he began sharing his love for tap and pursued a career teaching and coaching many young dancers across Southern California. Shawn has danced in many competitions and even made appearances on Ed McMahon’s Star Search. Some of Shawn’s greatest memories were from his competition days. One memory in particular was when he received the outstanding tap award at Rainbow Dance competition. He received that prestigious award from the tap master himself, AL Gilbert, and it is an honor now to be the one presenting that award to the future superstars. Shawn first started out with Kids Artistic Revue as a part of the judging panel, and soon thereafter he was traveling and working as a team member. Shawn is now entering his 8th season with KAR as a director. Having been a competition dancer, a dance teacher, a judge and now being a dance parent himself, he is a valued competition director at KAR. When he isn't traveling, Shawn enjoys being outdoors camping, offroading, and most of all spending time with his amazing wife and his two beautiful children Jacob and Ava. Shawn enjoys building and mentoring his team and meeting clients and dancers from across the country. What truly keeps him in this business, is the opportunity to help create lasting memories in the lives of today’s youth across America.
