“As Long As I’m Dancing, I’ll Be Happy”

When young lil’ Grace Hilarides, aka “Gracie,” started dancing at 3-years-old, the “barre” was set high. As the youngest one in many of her dance classes, she recalls her dad giving her dance teacher a call to see if “she was able to handle it and keep up.” But even at her age, she held her own and proved to her dad and teachers that she nothing was going to stop her. Today, Miss Hilardes is the reigning 2013 Miss Dance America, crowned at our Toledo, OH National Finals. Her award-winning and moving contemporary performance entitled, “She,” was choreographed by her older sister Sarah Hilarides.

Just a Penny Can Change Lives

“If there is anything that we love more than dance, it’s giving back and changing lives,” said Noah R Lands, CEO of KAR/Rainbow National Dance Competition.  And it is clear that this is the real drive and passion behind the creation of the Industry Dance Awards and its supporting charity foundations. I was lucky enough to sit-down with Mr. Lands to learn about these philanthropic movements and the ultimate goals for the collective “Industry”. This year, the 2014 Industry Dance Awards hopes to raise more than $100,000 to support selected cancer­-related charity organizations and the Circle of Hope Foundation through the “I’m A Dancer Against Cancer” campaign.
